The days where the first answer to any business requirement was to design a new system are long gone. Identifying and qualifying Commercial off the shelf systems (COTS) to clients needs is a growing part of our business.
Generally these systems must not only meet the immediate processing needs of the client, but must also fit into their company's IT strategy and budegary requirements.
As with all systems activities a structured approach based on documented requirements is essential to successful product selection.
